We would like to invite you to participate in an on-line discussion on Women and Environment - held from 1 to 27 February 2010- organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN HABITAT: http://forum.unhabitat.org
The purpose of the e-discussion is to bring together experts, practitioners and policy-makers, from within and outside of the UN system, to formulate critical policy messages to the 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (1995) and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly (2000). The discussion is hosted by WomenWatch (http://www.un.org/womenwatch)
The on-line discussion will build upon the recommendations made at the Beijing plus 10 Review highlighting the emerging environmental and disaster related challenges and impact of these on meeting the commitments made under the Beijing Platform for Action. These discussions will be a contribution to the 54th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which will take place from 1 to 12 March 2010.
Four key questions designed to catalyze debate between participants and analyze progress have been identified for the discussions and will focus on the following:
Week 1 (18-22 Jan) - Achievements
Week 2 (25-29 Jan) - Key environmental challenges
Week 3 (1-5 Feb) - Future actions
Week 4 (8-12 Feb) - Summary of discussions: Key messages.
Participants will be encouraged to take part in the debates as well as to contribute reports, photos and other relevant documents. Participation in the on-line discussion is open to practitioners, experts and policy-makers, networks and organizations interested in this critical area of concern. We further encourage you to forward this invitation to colleagues, and civil society activists who may be interested in following or participating in the discussion.
